Travel insurance

Cover that is valid where you are going.

One plan, written for travel anywhere in Latin America and priced per person per day. Cuba requires cover to let you in and can ask to see it at the border. The policy that fails there is almost never the one somebody forgot to buy: it is the one that excluded Cuba in a line nobody read.

Where you are going

Cuba: cover is required to enter.

Cuba requires medical cover that is valid in the country, and a border official can ask to see it. That is the one to get right before you fly.

What goes wrong

Four failures, and they are all quiet.

None of these looks like a problem until the moment it matters, which is exactly why they are worth an hour of your attention now.

The policy excludes the country

Plenty of ordinary travel policies exclude Cuba by name. Nobody notices until a border official asks for the certificate, and by then the flight has landed.

The policy excludes the activity

Diving, riding, altitude and hired vehicles sit outside a lot of standard cover. If it is on your itinerary it needs to be on your policy.

The dates stop short

Cover that ends the morning of your return flight ends too early. It has to run to the day you land back.

The limits are too low to matter

Medical repatriation is the largest bill a traveller can face. It is the number on the policy worth actually reading.

What we do

We coordinate the cover. We do not underwrite it.

Heyo Travel is a tour operator, not an insurer. What we do is arrange cover before you depart and confirm that it satisfies the country you are entering. What a policy pays, and on what terms, is between you and the underwriter, and we will always tell you to read it.

  • Arranged before departure, not on arrival
  • Checked against the destination’s own requirement
  • Named on your documents, so it is with you when asked for
What cover has to do

Five things to check, in the order they cost you.

The first two decide whether you get in and whether you are treated. The rest decide what it costs you afterwards.

Valid in the country you are entering
This is the one that catches people. Plenty of ordinary policies exclude Cuba by name, and it is not something anyone reads until a border official asks for the certificate.Required to enter Cuba
Medical treatment and hospital care
The cover the requirement is actually about. Private care is the norm for visitors across all three countries, and it is paid for at the point of use.Required to enter Cuba
Medical repatriation
Getting you home if you cannot fly commercially. It is the single largest bill a traveller can face and the one worth checking the limit on.
The whole of your trip
Including the day you leave and the day you land back. A policy that ends the morning of your return flight is a policy that ends too early.
What you are actually going to do
Diving, riding, altitude and hired vehicles are excluded from a lot of standard cover. If it is on your itinerary, check it is on your policy.
By destination

Where it is a rule, and where it is only sense.

Cuba
Required to enter. Cover has to be valid in the country and can be checked at the border. A policy that excludes Cuba is the common failure, and it fails at the worst possible moment.
Mexico and Argentina
Not required to enter, and still the thing you will wish you had. Private care is the norm for visitors and it is paid for at the point of use.

The destination’s own consulate is the only authority on who it lets in. We confirm your requirements against it for your passport and your dates, in writing, before you are asked to pay for anything, and we will tell you when something is outside what we can arrange.

The schedule

What Viaje Súper covers, and to what limit.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is insurance really compulsory for Cuba?

Yes. Cuba requires travel medical insurance that is valid in the country, and it can be asked for at the border. This is not a recommendation we are making; it is a condition of entry.

Why is there no price on this page?

Because the premium is per person per day, and it moves with the age of each traveller at departure and with what you plan to do out there. A single headline figure would be right for one party and wrong for every other. Give the search your dates and who is going and it prices the actual policy.

Can I use my own policy?

Of course, provided it is valid in the country you are entering. Read the exclusions rather than the summary, because Cuba is usually excluded in the exclusions and not mentioned anywhere else.

Does my credit card cover count?

Sometimes, and it is worth checking the wording rather than assuming. Card cover often has conditions attached, such as booking the trip on that card, and often excludes the same countries a cheap policy does.
