Ciudad del Este lies on the Paraná beside Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil and Puerto Iguazú in Argentina. Saltos del Monday and Itaipú combine with the falls, but check border and entry rules for your passport.
Summers, roughly December to February, are hot and humid, so autumn to spring is often more comfortable for ruins and sightseeing. Winters are mild, though nights can be cool, especially around Encarnación.
Entry rules depend on your passport and can change, so check them with official sources before booking. Cash in local currency is useful outside the capital, so carry some.
