Start from the capital
Panama City has the main international airport, and the canal, Portobelo and the islands branch out from it. Plan a city stay first, then add one chapter, either the islands or the highlands.

Practical thinking for a better-paced first plan.
Panama City has the main international airport, and the canal, Portobelo and the islands branch out from it. Plan a city stay first, then add one chapter, either the islands or the highlands.
Bocas del Toro and San Blas are reached by short flights or by road and boat. Give each at least two nights, and keep luggage light for small planes and boats.
Panama City and the Pacific side are driest from about December to April. Bocas del Toro has drier spells in January to April and again from late August to October, when Boquete is at its wettest.
Entry rules depend on your passport and can change, so check them with official sources before booking. A canal stop fits easily around arrival or departure, as the Miraflores locks are on the edge of the capital.
